I have been itching since Tuesday to get to the track tonight for speedwork. I dont know why, it hurts BAD but I was looking forward to it. That was until lunch time today, when the skies that have been great all week decided to open up and rain for half the day. Water and a grass track is not a good combination but when it stopped an hour before the session started I knew there may be a chance. A very slim one but one nonetheless.
I arrived at the track and as soon as I looked at it I knew that it was not good. I was surprised that others actually turned up, 5 in total. Schultzy who never misses a session decided that it was a bad idea and that we would ruin the track if we ran on it. He knew a road loop that they usually do if weather is bad. I was a bit disappointed I wasn't really wanting to run on the road but a run is a run so we all decided to do it. The others that were there were Hannah, Adam, Ciaran, Schultzy and myself of course. The run was around 8km and at this stage the weather was cool, a bit humid but not raining.
Hannah has had a big week of running and decided that it was going to be a steady run for her, Schultzy ran with her and gave Adam, Ciaran and myself some directions and then we started. I am useless with most areas in Brisbane but Adam lives around this area and took command of the group. It was a steady pace over mainly flat streets with the occassional hill which you really felt. I didn't wear the Garmin as my maths is usually good enough to add up laps of the track, so I was unsure of how far we ran, but at a guess around 10-11k. We actually missed one of the streets that Schultzy told us to turn down which added the extra 2-3k. All in all the run took us 52 mins 43 secs. About 5 mins later Hannah and Schultzy arrived which worked out well, I think that we all had a good run every one seemed to get a work out.
My next run I'm thinking may be on Saturday with the Running Buddies/Regatta Runners. I have never ran there before but if im feeling Ok that's the plan.
Today 10k
Month 49k
YTD 49k

You'll have to keep an eye on that Ciaran character. I've told his girlfriend to tell him to try to keep up with you while you are on the comeback trail. And then to try to keep on keeping up with you as you get faster :-)
Might see ya at The Regatta Saturday.
*LOL* When you said your name was Shane, I didn't realise you were blogging Shane til I just read this! :) Nice to meet you, hope to see you tomorrow at the running buddies :)
I agree track work does hurt but it's really good for us :) I hope it is anyway, don't want all that pain for nothing. I'm looking forward to getting back to my track sessions sometime in the next few weeks.
