Today was the second BRRC run for the year. As usual there were two race distances, a 7k or 14k. I was a little unsure of what I wanted to do, but the 14k option was a bit ambitious, so I decided to do my own thing, the plan was to run with the 14k group but pull out after 10k.
Things began well, I was running smooth and relaxed and wasn't pushing hard. I arrived at the 1k marker in 4.10 which was a suprise. I remained at the same pace and reached the 3k marker in 12.40. By this stage I was on my own, a larger group had formed in front of me but I knew that I didn't have the fitness to stick with them so I let them go and just concentrated on my own race.
A few people from behind had made some ground on me by the 5k mark, and by this stage I wasn't feeling that great, crossing the marker in 21.40. It was right there and then that I made the decision that I would only do 1 lap stopping with the distance of 7k.
The last 2k was a battle, I don't think it was the weather, just my fitness level. I concentrated on my form more so than speed, as pushing too hard can lead to poor form and subsequent injuries. The next 1k felt like 1500m it is on a part of the course that is straight so you can see how far you have to go, it just took forever. It was also my slowest 1k crossing the 6k marker at 26.27 (4.47).
The last 1k was a blur, I had another competitor pass me, so I just focussed on his back which increased my pace a little, taking little notice of my surroundings. I didn't speed up towards the end and kept a constant pace through to the finish, there was no point, obviously I wasn't going for a PB. I completed the last 1k in 4.43 giving me a total of 31.10 for 7k.
As soon as I stopped, sweat started pouring off me, it was weird however that I didn't notice it was that humid during the run. After the run, I was a little rude, I finished quite early, the 7k runners had just started and the majority of 14k runners still had another lap to go so I decided to leave before the presentations and go home for some icing and stretching.
All in all Im happy with the run, until next time, Happy Training!
Today - 7k
Month - 30k
YTD - 30k

It was incredibly humid out there. I think we are becoming accustomed to it and so don't realise exactly how bad it is.
Everybody seemed to blow up on that 6th km (mine was 15 seconds slower) so I'm thinking that turnaround was in the wrong place.
I'm glad to hear you are okay. I wondered where you got too - I was waiting for you to zoom past me on your second lap!
I still think that was one heck of a pace, good on you for running so good. The humidity sounded like it made it really tough, even if you didn't notice it.
