inconsistent, disjointed you might say.
2007 was marred by the fact that I have spent 3 1/2 of the last 5 months of the year away from home. This disrupted my life somewhat and from a running front destroyed any routine I had going. I stopped logging the K's from about September where I was only on 605 km so I dont think I even logged 1000 km for the year.
I just didn't get into it this year I lacked motivation and when it finally returned it was so damn close to the event that I could only manage a few good weeks of training. I also went off blogging for a while and although I have been posting on a regular basis again I only manged 54 posts for the year.
Anyway I did achieve some good results which to an extent now looking back are bitter sweet. I am pleased in the fact that I achieved some of the goals I set but know that I am capable of times much better.
The run down of 2007
Feb - Caboolture Dusk till Dawn: I decided on the afternoon to run this event with no relay partners I entered the shortest solo race - 6hrs. I had no intentions of running it all and stopped at 30k my biggest ever run, still to this day.
May - Warwick Pentath: My favourite event for the year and my 3rd Pentath, again some disjointed prepartion saw me change my goals. My PB was around 3h 14min and was hoping to get under 3h 10min. Even after receiving a foot injury after the 3rd race identical to the year before I managed to smash my goal and ran 3h 06.
Jun - BRRC 10k champs: About 4 weeks after Warwick along with 3 cortisone injections into my foot during that time I was lining up for the Brisbane Road Runners 10k championship race. I had some fitness left over from Warwick and had started to doing some training for the upcoming GC Half, I was confident on posting a strong result. I didn't bank on however running a PB in 39.28.
Jul - Gold Coat 1/2 Marathon: Always wanted to do this event but things have usually popped up around this time. Anyway I did get there in 07 and with a some good training over the last 4-6 weeks I was confident that I could nudge the 90 min mark. Although I was conditioned fairly well for up to 15k, it really showed in the latter stages of the run. I faultered at about the 18k mark and struggled big time. I did manage to smash my PB of 1.29.58 clocking 1.27.34 for this event.
Dec - Kurrawa to Duranbah: My 2nd run at this event and after spending 2 and a bit months in Vic I was not prepared for this. I struggled in 06 on some training so I wasn't really looking forward to this at all. I did have the first leg this year but and to my suprise I lasted longer than I thought up until the sign that states 6.3k to go. That's when it went all downhill, not the course, myself, the route does the opposite. I did manage again a PB although it wasn't a strong time I posted last race reducing it from 2.09 to 2.02.30.
Before I wrap things up I might aswell put my goal for 08 out there for all to see. Some new ones may appear later but for now here goes:
Distance Goals
5k - < 18 mins
10k - < 38.30
1/2 - 1.26.00, will be happy to consistently run below 90
Marathon - to complete one, would be nice to do sub 3.30 for my first though
Event Goals
Warwick - < 3hrs
City to Surf ( if I can get down there) - < 55 mins
Kurrawa - < 1.55
Marathon - 3 events to choose from in Brisbane area: Brisbane (April), GC (July), Toowoomba (Oct) not sure yet

That's a good wrap-up for 2007.
I hope you achieve your 2008 goals and they certainly seem achievable.
Thanks for all your support this year Shane.
Despite your 'obstacles' this year, you've achieved some fantastis results.
Looking forward to following your journey through 2008.
Hmmm, what happened to my comment ...
What I said was I didn't realise what a great year you'd had until you summarised it. Well done!
Some solid results for 2007 Shane, especially considering your modest mileage.
All the best with your '08 goals. I like the sub-18 5k, that being my favourite event these days. If you can get in the miles, sub 3:30 for the marathon should be a breeze.
