Time has gotten away from me, I didn't realise that I hadn't blogged for over 10 days. Well here is a quick run down on what has been going on.
Last week I was still feeling pretty ordinary and finally went to the Doc about my headache / migraine thingy. I was prescribed Panadeine Forte as the Doc felt that it was noting to be concerned about just maybe a stress related thing. I don't know what I was stressed about I am holidays, maybe because the little man hasn't been sleeping very well lately and it has caught up with me.
I finally got rid of the headache but then ended up with a sore throat, nothing that really stopped me from doing any training but it was very uncomfortable swallowing for a few days. I think today it is the first day it has completely gone.
I have done a few runs around the neighbourhood over the past week and a half, just the boring normal efforts I seem to do on a regular basis. In saying this I thought I'd spice things up a bit, I noticed on coolrunning that a team for the Hares and Hounds race needed another relay member as one pulled out at last minute. I toyed with the idea for a while and then decided to contact the person.
Before I knew I was now part of a team. I don't usually do that type of thing, I am a quiet type of person, a little shy I guess when meeting people. I am glad I did now, I got along with the other runners and had a good day. I didn't run very well and the hills absolutely killed me but it was good training. I ended up running 4 legs approx 15km in total. Our team completed the course in under 5 hrs for the 55+km course and actually came second in the teams category by about 15 secs. We got lost a few times throughout the day which chewed some time up aswell.
This week, I had a rest on Monday and went for a 10k on Tuesday, running about 4.40 pace. Yesterday I made an appearance at the weekly Mt Coot-tha run with the Running Buddies. I hadn't done this loop for god knows how long and after the weekend I wanted to get revenge on a hill. Nothing better than conquering the run up to the TV towers.
I started up the front and ran with Robbie for a bit before increasing the pace. I decided to go pretty solid up the hill. I saw a few bike riders up ahead and tried catching them. I caught and passed one and then sat behind another for the whole hill. Not too sure if they were impressed about this as they never looked back, but I am sure they would have heard my breathing. I reached the picnic area just over the last incline near the towers in around 18.30. This will be my benchmark now for future runs up the hill.
Once at the top I waited for a few others and headed off again this time staying with Robbie and having a yarn for most of the way. The pace was really comfortable across the top to the lookout. Having another short rest at the lookout we again headed off this time for the downhill section, certainly not my favourite bit.
I thought Robbie and I were going at a good pace however before I knew it a few people had caught up to us on this section including Tesso who was flying down the hill. Once the hill leveled out a bit down the bottom I left Robbie and caught up to Tesso running with her for the remainder of the way. All in all an enjoyable morning, not sure of the exact time for the loop maybe around 47-48 for the 9.6k.
Back at the car park I think I was in a delirious state as I think I agreed to doing two laps next Wednesday, not sure what I was thinking but I am now committed and can't pike out now.

Nice work on the hill yesterday Shane. It was good to have you along. Its a great little crew we have going there, there's always somebody to make you work harder!
You would have come in well under 47, probably more like 45. My total time was 47:16 and my time to the ABC (before that picnic area) was 19:16.
Yeah, 2 laps next week. I think when I agreed to that I was suffering from lack of oxygen to the brain :-)
Good to see you came right, Shane.
Can't believe you were that close to bike riders and didn't take the opportunity to spit on them ;)
Ohh, I hope Lance Armstrong doesn't read your blog!
Don't worry about not blogging, the main thing is that you're out there doing what you love, running.
I reckon at times blogging takes as long as running.
That Tesso! She's too competitive. Next time, give her the elbow, or a punch in the guts.
