Sunday Evening Long(ish) run

Week - 14k
Month - 48k
YTD - 917k

It has been hard to not get out and begin training like a man possessed after my great training session on Thursday. Instead I resisted the urge and made sure that I recovered properly before heading out again, that and it was great weather to curl up under the quilt and watch TV over the past few days aswell. The only disappointing thing, much to the delight of Tesso was that the Broncos won their game last night.

I set off at 5pm this evening thinking that I wanted to do a long run, well longish and probably a regular training run to most of you. Anyway I had a track in mind, I had run parts of this before but instead extended it somewhat to make a big loop. Unsure of the distance I was hoping it would exceed 15k which would be my longest training session since a few days prior to Warwick in May.

With my longer training sessions I always end up running way too fast, more like a Tempo session than a easy slow day. Today however I made a conscious effort to remain at a comfortable pace for the entire run. Apart from being swooped by a magpie which scared the shit out of me and made me high tail it focussing on my pace worked a treat.

I enjoyed the session and got to listen to more tracks on the Ipod than usual, the weather was great and the streets quiet. My only negative point was that my track ended up being quite a bit shorter than predicted, next time I will head down to the next block which will certainly rectify that.

Overall I returned home in 71 mins 6 secs a total distance of 14.23k which worked out to be spot 5 min/k pace. Here is the run down of the splits, boring I know but I am proud that I didn't kill myself for a training run; 5.47, 4.47, 4.50, 4.59, 5.01, 5.11, 4.58, 4.58, 4.53, 4.52, 5.04, 4.54, 4.55, 4.48, 1.06 (231m)

I have the next week off work, my Mum left yesterday so there ended up being a gap of a week between now and when Cass's mum comes down to help out with Cass. In saying that I am planning to head to Pat's session on Tuesday. I dont get many opportunities to get there very often in fact I have only been there for a TT in March. It is very early so Cass and hopefully Samuel will remain sleeping while Im away. I was checking Pats website today and couldn't find any details of what is palnned for Tuesday, does anyone know( Brisbane folk of course) or is it kept a secret till the day.

I've only had one magpie swooping this season and they're cunning little b.....

I suppose in the scheme of things 700 m short over 15 k is neither here or there but I suppose it is nicer saying 15.

Pat keeps it a secret! nah just kidding. I just havent' looked at what he sent out on the newsletter. Then again - he mostly changes it on the day anyhow.

With a time trial coming up soon I would think we may have some grassy hills or 500m efforts. Time will tell - will be fantastic to see you there.

Nice work on the tempo run. And on the magpie dodging.

Sometimes you are better off not knowing what Pat has in store for us! Whatever, one things for sure, it will hurt. But you'll feel so good afterwards.

See ya there.

Great to hear that Cass is feeling better after all the trials she's been through. Also pleasing that there's nothing seriously wrong with the legs, and hope they stay that way. Enjoy the week off...must be nice to have some extra time to play with Samuel.
