A spur of the moment decision saw the clan pack our bongos and head to the pool. It was Samuels second experience at the local water hole, where the first time he didn't care much for it and fell asleep. I hung around for a while and watched him kick around and then swooped on a free lane in the lap pool, while Cass and her mum played with Sam.
On the agenda was 1k broken down into 400, 300, 200, 100 with around 3 or so minutes rest. I haven't swam since last year while I was recovering from my knee operation . Rumaging through my blog archives around the 15 Dec 05 was the last time a swim was mentioned.
In saying that my main objective was to complete the distance, nothing more was programmed nor expected. I had a 50m warm up :) and then I was straight into it.
I started off with the 400m, it's a 25m pool so 16 laps, I am also quite un-co so at each end I grab onto the edge and turn around, no tumble turns here so my time per lap is slowed considerably.
Anyway I felt pretty good the whole session, but basically realised that I am just not built for the water. I have suggested on many peoples blogs to get to a session with a coach for stroke correction but have never gotten around to it myself. I must do it, I would love to do a few Tri's and one of my goals this year which I dismissed a few months back was to compete in the Noosa Tri. Cycling and running is not an issue but I find swimming so hard.
I ended the session clocking around 1min 5 secs per 50m on average which I was happy with. I also finished the session without rest breaks during each of the intervals which suprised me alot. I am just not looking forward to tomorrow when my upper body will feel like it has been in the ring with Kostya Tszyu.

I've thought about Tri's but it's the swimming part that I'm not overly keen with. Then chuck in the extra time for extra training, my wife would go crazy.
I've updated your details in my Bloglines account.
Heh positive thinking Shane - you didn't drown so that's gotta count for something...you must have some natural talent heh!
It was fun up at Bribie today but we missed you and the family. I was looking forward to playing with Sam on the beach and having a BBQ with you all. Next year - it's a definite must on your calendar!
