Week 16.1
Month 75.9
YTD 153.9
I'm back, I have finally moved house and have completed all the unpacking, it's time now to catch up on all the blogs I have missed over the past week or so.
I woke up on Sunday morning in a awesome hotel my inlaws had booked for my wife and I on Saturday night. They were visiting and staying at the same hotel (Stamford Plaza in the city), and to spend more time with us they paid for the room. This is were my dilemma occurred, you can just imagine how hard it is to wake up at 5 am Sunday morning in a 5 star hotel, let alone waking up knowing that you are about up to put yourself through pain. I then looked out the window to see it was pouring, great! 10 miles in the pouring rain or a king sized bed in a great hotel. Decisions, I knew what I wanted to do, but also knew what I should do, so insanity took over and I drove to the race. The amount of willpower it took to ring the concierge and get my car so I could drive and run that morning was huge.
I didn't know at the time but the race was the first club championship race of the year. A ten miler and to my surprise the turn out was infact pretty good considering. The race actually started a little late due to the rain slowing the registration process. I arrived a little late and like many others had a quick minute warm up before the start. Perfect preparation.
The run consisted of a 1.1k loop followed by the normal 5k loop which we completed three times, by the start of the run the rain had pretty much stopped.
The run went pretty well, I felt comfortable the whole race, and actually enjoyed the distance. Im feeling alot fitter and the knee is great. The only split I can remember is at the 11.1k mark, starting my last 5k loop I crossed the start/finish line at 50:29 i then continued on to complete the 10 miles (16.1k) in 73:05.
The presentations began about 1/2 hour after the finish, and to my surprise I got third in my age group and received a shiny bronze medal for my effort. There were also some other great results with Tesso, Clairie and Hannah all receiving much deserved gold medals. Clairie was also third female overall which she achieved by running a PB.

The 'champs' days are the best, there's always a good turnout so lots of people to race. Now all you need to do is perfect the art of reading people's hands on the run so you know if they're in your category. Of course at the same time you have try to conceal yours ;-)
Anyway, definitely a medal winning performance by you. Not just the run but leaving a 5 star hotel to do it ... in the rain! What a champ. Not sure if your wife would agree though :-)
I think I would have opted to sleep in under those conditions. Good running though, looks like you've shaken that injury.
10 miles are my favourite, that's a great time you did!
Dude, you deserve the medal just for leaving the 5 star hotel! Great stuff :)
