Today the plan was to go for a jog around my new neighbourhood for the first time since moving here. The distance however was a little up in the air, after reading a few blogs today where alot of fellow bloggers have been racking up some serious mileage I had a brief urge to do the same and was thinking about doing a long slow afternoon training run.
This came to an abrupt end when I began running, I strapped on the Garmin and set off. I felt great, the 72 hours rest I had, has done wonders for my energy levels. So great in fact that my long slow run was blown out the window when my body took control and decided to be 30 secs per km faster than the plan of 5 min/k pace.
I tried to ease up on the pace which worked for about 400m but then it would slowly increase back to below 4.30 pace. It seemed as though I had no control today and my body was telling me that I was running this pace no matter what. I was fighting a losing battle and eventually decided to keep on the pace and end the session at 10k.
Being new to the area I had a route planned in my head, however I didn't know what type of distance it was. The route was a little shorter than expected and I had to run around parks and along bike tracks before heading home to make up the 10k. I eventually made it home in 45.02secs for 10.02km so pretty much spot on 4:30 pace. I felt good but I really do need to start getting some longer runs under my belt. Apart from Caboolture all my longer runs have all been around 1hr 15 min on average, something I will try and rectify in the next few weeks.
I thing I did notice was the lack of people out doing the Sunday afternoon exercise, something that was very popular in the area I used to live in, abit disappointing, the neighbourhood seems like a ghost town, no friendly faces around at all.

I know what you mean when your body takes over your mind/brain. I'm paying the price for it right now (I've been out of action since Thursday). Good time all the same.
Must feel kinka strange running around a new neighbourhood, though I guess it won't for long. My biggest worry would be not knowing where the unfriendly doggies live!
Oh, and I think all your neighbours were at Coles at Toowong yesterday afternoon along with the rest of Brisbane.
