If it doesn't feel free to lie

As I said in an earlier post I will try to somewhat follow Pat Carrolls intermediate Marathon training program. I will definetely do the long runs and I will try to do the shorter runs and speed sessions as close as I can manage. I wont however be sticking to the days, I will have to mix them up as it will sometimes clashes with my compulsory fitness lessons at work. I will be also doing my long runs mainly on a Saturday aswell.

Anyway, a bit of a review, we did end up winning the >105 year teams triathlon event and actually came second over all which was good.

I also done a few shorter speed sessions and moderate paced runs for the remainder of the week.

This is where you can lie, I tackled my first planned long run for my assault on the GC Marathon yesterday. 2 hrs was on the program and I was going to head into the city but decided if I am really committed to this then the test would be to sleep in a little longer and do the session later by myself.

I headed out the door at 7.45am and had a out and back plan along the major roads around my local area. I stopped very little for the first hour only for the odd traffic light. On the way back I was still feeling pretty good until 1/2 an hour to go where my legs were becoming fatigued. The program said it should be comfortable so I had a 30 sec walking stint and battled on.

About 2k from home I filled the water bottles back up and made my way home. I finished 37 secs after the 2 hrs which means that my pacing was pretty good for the out and back course. I have to admit though it is going to be hard doing that week in weeek out until July. I will begin to run with the group in the city after everyone finishes with the Canberra training and starts to focus on the later events.

I do hope that it gets easier, I guess in a few weeks 2 hrs will be easy but by that stage I will need to be running 2.30 which will again be a battle. I didn't run with the garmin but mapped the route out on google maps and it measure 23.5k (av 5.07 per km).

I pulled up pretty good today, my left calf is a little tight but nothing to worry about.

Yep, it will get easier.

As far as plans go, that's all they are, plans. I find it so hard to follow a plan, every Monday do this, every Tuesday do this and so on, that's far too rigid for me.

At the end of the day, what's the difference whether you do your weekly long run on the Friday, Saturday or Sunday and likewise for the other types of runs on given days.

In answer to your query over my way, 84 mins or thereabouts for the winner of the Police & Emergency Games Half Marathon.

Oh, and if it was easy everyone would be doing it.

I don't do marathons, so I don't know if it gets easier ;)

I think someone of your talent could get by on quicker 2 hour runs, with a couple of 2:45ers later on.
