It's good to be back!

Week - 26.5k
Month - 42.5k
YTD - 254km

My absence from the blog scene has made me realise that I did enjoy writing about my shenanigans more than I first thought, I did however need the break. I will probably update a little more than my initial idea of fortnightly but obviously this will depend on work and family commitments.

Anyway, the last few weeks have been steady. I have been running pretty regular but only short sessions. I was planning to have a big weekend over Easter and was keen to give the intraining fun run and make a return to the running buddies however a last minute decision saw the family go away for the weekend.

I wont get into any details about my training last week and the like and will just start from Sunday which is the beginning of the running week for me.

Sunday 8th
Set off fairly late in the arvo for a 10k run. New scenery for me as I was in Gladstone at the time. Very strange to be running in an area that has no one doing any sort of exercise. The streets where deserted. I had a plan of where I wanted to run but it didn't eventuate. I took a wrong turn however it worked out well. The majority of the run was very steady and just to spice it up a bit I added in a short but very tough hill at the 9km mark. This woke the legs up very quickly and it took a while to get that heavy feeling out of them. I ended up finishing in 48.36.

Monday 9th
Rest day, spent the day catching up with friends and family before we headed back to Brisbane

Tuesday 10th
Arrived home after 6hrs of driving at 2pm. I was out the door for a run at about 5pm. Had Sam in the pram which felt quite difficult until I reached the servo and pumped the tyres up that were at 5 psi. Never leave a women in charge of maintenance ;-) Continued for about 6.5k with Sam getting fed up and falling to sleep at about the 3k mark. Very sedate pace which was probably the reason why he fell asleep. About 31 minutes.

Wednesday 11th
After having a big feed for lunch only an hour and a half prior I set off for a run at 3pm. I am still on holidays until Friday. I was planning to do an experiment, with Warwick coming up in about 5 weeks I was going to do the race over today and tomorrow. The difference being that I was going to halve the distance of all events aswell as the rest between them.

Seemed like a good plan until I started running. I wanted to be somewhere around the ball park in regards to race pace. I set the Virtual Partner on the Garmin for 45min - 10k which should have been fairly easy to achieve. After the first k I was feeling sluggish and this didn't improve the whole run. My breathing was fine but the legs had no energy and the lunch was sitting very heavy in my stomach. I battled on and it wasn't until 7k that Mr VP overtook me. I wanted to give up and go home but stayed out there knowing that there was no way I was doing anymore running today. I ended up finishing the run in 45.34 about 120 odd metres behind my imaginary enemy.

I will try this again before the event, maybe when I have a free weekend and I get back from my 4 day adventure at the range.

Lastly I would like to wish everyone good luck at Canberra this weekend and to TD who is running the Boston Marathon along with anybody else racing. I haven't caught up with the readings as yet but will get around to it eventually.

Glad your blogging again Shane.

You know, you may think no bastard is really that interested in hearing about your life and running experiences but we are and although people don't always respond they, like me , I'm sure, miss it when someone they have been reading about stops writing.

So do it when you can and thanks for not staying away too long.

Great to have you back!

I'm really looking forward to Warwick too - I'm already planning my revenge on that 'hill' :-)

Shame you missed the Easter Egg run, it was fun! Well, the run wasn't fun but the egg tossing was :-) Sounds like you had a nice time though.

Good to hear you are getting serious about Warwick already. I can't wait to stop worrying about Canberra so I can start worrying about Warwick.

Thanks for the good luck wishes.

See ya soon.

PS Hi to Cass & Sam :-)

Thank goodness for that! Now I can dump Tesso's blog.

Here's a tip for new players... just make VP run slower ;)

Hello from Boston, Shane, and thanks so much for your best wishes. They really do mean a lot to me.

I love what Scott has written. We all face work and family pressures and they are obviously more important than the blog world. But as Scott says I too really enjoy reading about your running experiences, along with the others. I gain so much inspiration and strength from these stories. I suppose I am just a nosey bugger too!

All the best. I will enjoy reading your posts whenever you feel the need to blog them.
