YTD 30 km
Well its the start of the 13th year that this blog has been going on and although I have been very sporadic in posting it is certainly fun to read back through previous posts. Now that my son is of age, where he gets what this is about he has found it to be quite amusing when I have discussed him as a newborn. He is now entering his last year of primary school before heading to high school in 2019. Crazy!
So since the commencement of the year I have been travelling pretty good with the training. I am not training for anything specific just preparing for another year of work and I am trying to improve my fitness before heading back next week. A few days ago I stumbled across a Strava challenge of 2018 km for 2018. I rarely enter a challenge on this app but thought what the hell so I signed in. I doubt it very much that I will achieve it. I don't think I have ever clocked over 2018 km in a year even when I was running 80 odd minutes for my half marathons. I need to average around 5 km a day which isn't a lot really but if you miss a day here and there it quickly becomes difficult.
Additionally, I started a week late and therefore the runs I have done before signing up to the challenge don't count officially. I will, however be counting them and currently I am sitting at 30 km for the year. Pretty happy with that.
Runs to note so far are a few 7k and 8k runs around 4.30 pace. I done a 6k in 4.19, but the heat took its toll and I done the last 2k of the normal 8k loop as a walk run to cool down. We have been having a few 40+ degree days which makes it difficult and not enjoyable if you want to push it.
I hope to get down the grass track tomorrow for some intervals. I don't think I have done intervals for about 12 mths so it should be interesting. I will cool off with a dip in the pool across the road from the track.
Happy Training!
