Mid week update

Before I begin I will answer a question that R2B asked. Do you think gym training is worth it from a running perspective?

Although Im slack when it comes to weights etc I do believe that they help alot. I feel stronger, can handle hills much better and generally feel that I have alot more power. I used to do them alot when I used to compete in sprinting but still feel that they help with the endurance stuff aswell. Furthermore if you have seen my little chicken legs then going to the gym is least I can do for them :)

Well over the past two days, I have taken a break from running and just went to the gym yesterday. I was finding that I was getting a little tight and fatigued due to the increase in distance I have been doing over the past fortnight. Although not ideal I dont want to become injured with overuse injuries and I generally run better as I suppose everyone does after a little rest.

Work has been kind and has given us Friday and Monday off so I am off for another round of golf in the morning. More than likely in the afternoon I will try and do some speedwork and maybe cram another short run on Saturday before West End.

I think that should be the least I do, the way Tesso has been running lately I might need to turn it on in the last 100m of Sundays 15k race :)

The only way we'd be doing a sprint finish on Sunday is if you miscalculate and do an extra 5k loop :-)

I agree with you on the gym thing, I'm sure its of benefit to running. Also I find when I do go to the gym I spend more time stretching than I would otherwise.

I think some sort of strength work definitely helps your running. It's great you've got another exciting goal to go for.
